Citroen C4 Cactus Ditches Unconventional Styling For 2018
The lovable Citroen C4 Cactus has been on the market since 2014, but just four years later, the French marque has decided to ditch the compact hatchback's quirky styling for something a little more up-market. With substantial upgrades, both inside and out, the Cactus gains new features like a softer suspension, a floating-roof design, and more than 31 different exterior combinations to choose from.
But don't worry, a few cues from the original do carry over. The signature Airbump side panels remain, but have been shrunken significantly, and moved further down from the center of the door panel to the bottom sill. The fascia retains a number of the same cues, including the sleek headlights. Overall Citroen says that the new design of the C4 remains bold, but "gains enhanced status."
A total of nine different body colors are available to choose from, including options like Polar White, Platinum Grey, and Sport Red, among others. That stylish new body is paired with a selection of five different alloy wheels, too. Grey 16-inch Square, and black 16-inch Square designs are available on the lower trim models, while buyers can opt for a more upscale 17-inch Cross wheel, which comes in a number of color options.
Under the hood is a range of PureTech three-cylinder gas engines options; the base model produces 82 horsepower (61 kilowatts) and comes paired to a five-speed manual gearbox. The PureTech 110 produces 110 hp (82 kW), and is available with either a five-speed manual or a six-speed automatic. At the top of the range, a 130-hp (96-kW) PureTech engine is available, paired to the same automatic or manual gearbox. Buyers can also opt for a BlueHDi diesel engine, though the option won’t be available until autumn 2018. Paired with either a manual or automatic gearbox, the BlueHDi diesel engines returns 100 hp (74 kW), or 120 hp (89 kW) when equipped with the upgraded S&S EAT6 automatic gearbox.
In the cabin, three connective technologies can be found and 12 driver assistance systems can optioned. The three connective technologies include a mirror screen function, which allows for Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and MirrorLink connectivity, a navigation system, and even an emergency geolocation call and assistance service.
The new Citroen C4 will go on sale early in 2018. No word on pricing or availability just yet.
