Kia Optima Sportswagon is brand's first D-segment wagon in Geneva

Kia is ready with the Optima Sportswagon estate, which is currently on display at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show.

 

Kia is joining the important European station wagon D-segment with its brand new Optima Sportswagon that will go on sale on the continent during the fourth quarter of this year. The model offers a boot volume of 19.5 cubic feet (552 liters) with the rear seats in use that can be folded in 40:20:40 ratio.

 

If the interior looks familiar to you it’s because it was carried over from the Optima sedan which means it features the same gloss black trim, chrome accents, and an infotainment system with either a 7.0- or 8.0-inch touchscreen display. As standard, the car comes with a six-speaker sound system, while optionally available are a wireless smartphone charger and an eight-speaker Harman Kardon audio system.

 

The Kia Optima Sportswagon will be offered to customers with three different engines and we expect the 1.7-liter diesel unit to be the core motor for Europe. It produces 140 horsepower (103 kilowatts) and 251 pound-feet (340 newton meters) of torque and can be mated to either a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 7-speed automatic transmission with two clutches.

 

2.0-liter naturally aspirated and turbocharged petrol units complete the range. The NA motor comes with 160 hp (118 kW) and 145 lb-ft (196 Nm) of torque, while the turbo variant generates 241 hp (177 kW) and 260 lb-ft (352 Nm) of torque.
