Mercedes AMG GT R spied, will debut at Goodwood

The highly anticipated Mercedes-AMG GT R has been spied undergoing testing in Southern Europe shortly after Mercedes-AMG CEO Tobias Moers confirmed the model will be unveiled at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.

 

Set to slot above the Mercedes-AMG GT S, the high-performance model draws inspiration from the Mercedes-AMG GT3 and features a new front fascia, a revised grille, and sportier side skirts. The model has also been equipped with a center-mounted exhaust, a sporty rear diffuser, and a large rear wing.

 

Mercedes is keeping performance specifications under wraps but the car is expected to use an upgraded biturbo 4.0-liter V8 engine that develops approximately 550 horsepower. This will enable the model to be faster than the Mercedes-AMG GT S and that's before factoring in the rumored weight reduction of around 175 pounds.

 

The Goodwood Festival of Speed kicks off on June 23rd and Moers told Motoring the model will have a four-wheel steering system as well as better driving dynamics than the SLS Black Series. Speaking of which, the executive also confirmed plans for a Black Series variant of the GT.
