Cadillac President confirms three-row crossover
Cadillac President Johan de Nysschen has confirmed the company is developing a three-row crossover to sit above the recently introduced XT5.
Speaking to Automotive News, de Nysschen said the model will ride on a long-wheelbase version of the C1XX platform that underpins the XT5 and GMC Acadia. The platform will also be used on the next-generation Buick Enclave and Chevrolet Traverse.
While some critics might thumb their nose at the platform sharing, de Nysschen said the platform's flexibility enables the company to "develop the car very quickly, as opposed to starting from scratch." The executive went on to say the engineers are hard at work to get the model into showrooms as fast as possible. de Nysschen declined to give a timeframe but the publication is reporting the crossover could go on sale in the second half of 2018.
In related news, de Nysschen suggested the XT5 could eventually be offered with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine in the United States. In the meantime, the model is available exclusively with a 3.6-liter V6 engine that produces 310 bhp (231 kW) and 270 lb-ft (365 Nm) of torque.
