Three-row Lexus RX confirmed for late 2017 / early 2018
Lexus has confirmed plans to introduce a three-row variant of the RX crossover either by the end of 2017 or early 2018.
There has been a lot of gossip concerning a potential three-row RX and now Lexus General Manager Jeff Bracken has confirmed that it’s on its way. Speaking to Automotive News at the ongoing New York Auto Show, Bracken said that model is going to arrive by the end of 2017 or the beginning of 2018. He went on to specify company dealers are impatiently waiting for the model and “would just love to have it now.”
The confirmation doesn’t really come as a big surprise taking into account Lexus recently trademarked the “RX 350L” and “RX 450 hL” nameplates in United States. This means the three-row RX will be offered just like the regular model with a V6 engine and in a hybrid configuration. Expect the 109.8-inch wheelbase of the five-seat RX to be extended to make room for the third row.
In terms of styling, Bracken said the three-row RX’s design will remain just about the same, adding the designers put a lot of effort in the five-seater and they don’t want to alter it too much on the extended variant.
It’s too soon to talk about pricing, but obviously the stretched RX will cost a tad more than the equivalent standard RX which in United States begins at $41,900 for the V6 and from $52,235 for the hybrid.
