All aboard the hype train with new 800-hp Lexus LFA rumor
A report originating from Japan suggests Lexus is preparing a second-gen LFA supercar.
On numerous occasions, we’ve heard Lexus saying there won’t be another LFA in the foreseeable future, but that might change if we were to rely on a new report issued by Japanese website Response . Those folks say that Lexus is indeed cooking up a brand new LFA which will allegedly be introduced at the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show.
Our Japanese is a bit rusty, but using Google Translate we managed to find out the car is expected to come with a hybridized 3.7-liter V8 engine delivering a massive 800 horsepower (588 kilowatts). If that turns out to be true, it means the new LFA will be 240 hp more powerful than its predecessor, even though it will have only eight cylinders as opposed to the original model that packed a mighty V10.
Displacement will be down by 1.1 liters from the ten-cylinder’s 4.8 liters to the eight-cylinder’s 3.7 liters. Not like it matters a lot on a supercar, but fuel economy will likely be vastly improved thanks to the smaller combustion engine and the hybrid assistance.
If by any chance the rumor coming from the Land of the Rising Sun is indeed true, perhaps Lexus will tease the second-gen LFA with a concept in 2017 or 2018. Here’s hoping that it will happen.
