Tesla has taken the wraps off the facelifted Model S.

 

Looking instantly recognizable, the car follows in the footsteps of the Model 3 and Model X as it adopts a new front fascia with a slender grille that is flanked by new LED headlights.

 

Moving on to the interior, there are several new options including heated / ventilated front seats and a medical-grade HEPA air filter. The Model S can also be equipped with two new wood trim options including Dark Ash and Figured Ash.

 

The interior changes are relatively minor but the Model S comes nicely equipped with heated front seats, a keyless entry system, and an infotainment system with a 17-inch display. Drivers will also find rain-sensing wipers, Bluetooth / USB connectivity, a rearview camera, and a navigation system.

 

An assortment of different options will be available including the Premium Upgrade package that includes Nappa leather upholstery, an Alcantara headliner, LED ambient lighting, and the aforementioned HEPA air filter. Customers can also order a Subzero Weather Package which adds heated rear seats, a heated steering wheel, and heated washer nozzles.

 

On the performance front, four different powertrains will be available. The entry-level Model S 70 has an electric motor that produces 315 horsepower and 325 pound-feet of torque. It enables the car to accelerate from 0-60 miles per hour in 5.5 seconds before hitting a top speed of 140 mph.

Moving up to the Model S 70D rewards buyers with a dual-motor system that develops 328 hp and 387 lb-ft of torque. Thanks to the extra power and the all-wheel drive system, the car runs from 0-60 mph in 5.2 seconds and has a top speed of 140 mph. The car's range also increases from 230 miles in the 70 to 240 miles in the 70D.

 

Buyers looking for something more powerful can order the 90D variant which has two electric motors that produce 417 hp and 485 lb-ft of torque. In terms of performance, this enables the car to run from 0-60 mph in 4.2 seconds, hit a top speed of 155 mph, and travel up to 294 miles on a single charge.

 

Last but not least, the Model S P90D has two electric motors that produce a combined output of 463 hp and 713 lb-ft of torque. This allows the car to rocket from 0-60 mph in 3.1 seconds before topping out at 155 mph. However, with the Ludicrous upgrade, the output climbs to 532 hp which reduces the 0-60 mph time to 2.8 seconds.

 

Despite the carryover powertrains, the Model S has an upgraded 48 amp charger which should help to reduce recharging times.

 

The facelifted Tesla Model S will go into production shortly and pricing starts at $71,500.
