2018 BMW X3 M spied for the first time

The BMW faithful have been clamoring for a X3 M and it looks like the Bavarian automaker is finally answering their prayers as spy photographer have snapped the first pictures of the high-performance crossover.

 

Caught undergoing testing in Germany, the 2018 X3 M is distinguished by an aggressive front fascia which has large air intakes with mesh grille inserts. Additional changes are limited but the prototype has also been equipped with a four-tailpipe exhaust system and large alloy wheels that are backed up by a high-performance braking system. The production model will likely take things a step further as we can expect to see aerodynamic mirrors, front fender vents, and a sportier rear bumper.

 

There's no word on what will power the model but the X3 M will be more powerful the X4 M40i which has a 3.0-liter TwinPower Turbo six-cylinder engine that develops 360 horsepower and 343 pound-feet of torque. It enables the crossover coupe to run from 0-60 miles per hour in 4.7 seconds before hitting a limited top speed of 130 mph.

 

Of course, the X3 M will be facing stiffer competition than the X4 M40i as it will have to square off against the 400 hp Porsche Macan Turbo and the 500+ hp Mercedes-AMG GLC 63.
