Here's your next-gen 2018 Jeep Wrangler spied

The fourth-generation Jeep Wrangler has been caught on camera undergoing testing ahead of next year’s launch.

 

Due to the extensive camouflage, it’s hard to tell whether what we’re looking at is a prototype or an early test mule like the one spotted in September 2015. Taking into account it’s wearing a lot of disguise, it means there are some body parts which will be found on the 2018 Wrangler. The bulging front fenders are an indication the test vehicle seen here is more evolved than last year’s test mule. We are not entirely sure, but the front end could be a tad longer, although it may seem that way because of the heavy camo.

 

From Fiat Chrysler Automobiles' updated business plan published at the beginning of the year we learned a few things about the 2018 Wrangler. For starters, it’s going to be powered by “next gen” powertrains and will be offered in mild hybrid and hybrid versions. A diesel engine is also planned for the next Wrangler and it might make it to United States for the first time ever.

 

Interestingly, there’s a report indicating the current Wrangler will be assembled concomitantly with the all-new model for a certain amount of time at the factory in Toledo. To spice things up, Jeep has plans to launch a pickup derivative of the new Wrangler which will be built at the same facility.

 

There were some old rumors indicating the 2018 Wrangler would get an all-aluminum body, but that’s not going to happen. Sergio Marchionne revealed about a year ago the body will have some aluminum parts, but it won’t be made entirely from this metal.

 

Look for the Wrangler’s reveal to occur in the first half of 2017, with the pickup to follow a few months later.
