Next-gen Tesla Roadster to be "faster and bigger"
Tesla Motors is currently pretty busy dealing with the unexpectedly high demand for the new Model 3, but first details regarding the second generation Roadster are starting to arrive.
It is believed the Californian company is already working on a successor for the sporty model that will likely be launched three years from now. Tesla is apparently doing good job keeping the development of the vehicle in secret, as we haven’t heard much about it so far.
But now, Tesla’s Nordic Countries Manager Peter Bardenfleth-Hansen revealed first details of the upcoming new Roadster. During a presentation at an electronics trade fair in Gothenburg, Sweden, he declared the open-top electric sports vehicle will "look a little different” and will be “a little faster and a little bigger.”
While this is pretty vague, reports say the new Roadster will be based on the same platform that underpins the Model 3, while a more powerful electric powertrain sounds like a reasonable upgrade over the current model.
But before launching the new Roadster, Tesla will have to provide the promised Roadster 3.0 update for the owners of the current model. The update was announced more than year ago, but it doesn’t look like anyone received the retrofit package that includes a new aero kit, new tires with lower rolling resistance, and a new battery pack with LG cells. So far, only the battery pack was made available for reservation on Tesla’s website.
