VW Amarok facelift shows its car-like interior
The Amarok is fundamentally a workhorse, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it cannot come with a more upmarket cabin to make those inside feel as if they were in a regular car. That’s what VW was going for when working on the facelift which adopts a dashboard layout similar to the company’s passenger cars, such as the Golf. The high seat position and great all-around visibility are still there, so the pickup tries to offer the best of both worlds.
Sourced from VW’s regular cars are the electrically-adjustable ergoComfort front seats which are heated and can also be adjusted in height to find the ideal position. There are no less than 14 ways to modify the seat position and for extra comfort the seat covers are finished in nappa leather.
VW Commercial Vehicles also made some changes to the instrument panel which now boasts more horizontal lines compared to the pre-facelift version that came with round contours. A bunch of storage compartments spread throughout the cabin boost practicality and there’s a new multi-function steering wheel providing access to numerous functions.
Go for the Aventura launch model and you get a color screen between the instrument dials as well as standard paddle switches on the steering wheel to control the eight-speed automatic transmission. The facelifted Amarok also comes with a frameless rearview mirror and the latest-gen infotainment system with support for navigation, DAB digital radio, and voice commands.
To make your life easier, the pickup can be fitted with a Park Pilot system combining parking sensors with a rearview camera. Other goodies on the menu include up to four 12-volt power supply sockets, stainless steel pedals (only for Aventura), air conditioning system, and Bluetooth connectivity.
As far as pricing is concerned, the cheapest Amarok money can buy is the rear-wheel-drive Trendline Double Cab which in Germany kicks off at €25,720 (net). At the other end of the price spectrum, the range-topping Amarok Aventura with the beefy 224-hp turbodiesel V6, all-wheel-drive 4MOTION, and an eight-speed automatic will set you back €46,525 once it will go on sale late September.
