Spied: 2018 Land Rover Range Rover Sport Coupe

Land Rover's rumored BMW X6 rival has finally broken cover. Believed to be called Range Rover Sport Coupe, Land Rover's sleek-roofed SUV is being prepped for a late 2017 market launch.

 

Internally known as L560, the Range Rover Sport Coupe is thought to be based on sister company Jaguar's upcoming J-Pace SUV. That should mean plenty of aluminum in the Range Rover Sport Coupe's construction.

 

The Range Rover Sport Coupe will slot between the Range Rover Evoque and Range Rover Sport, in terms of overall footprint, in the Land Rover lineup. Size-wise, the Coupe should measure in at 15.5 feet, making it about half a foot shorter than the Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe.

 

Although Land Rover's are known for their off-road abilities, we hear that the Range Rover Sport Coupe is being tuned with road manners in mind. Still, the Range Rover Sport Coupe should be able to handle its own off the beaten path.

 

The Range Rover Sport Coupe will feature a driver-focused cockpit with luxury features befitting of its expected $85,000 price tag. The Range Rover Sport Coupe will come standard with a 2+2 seating arrangement; a 2+1 rear seat with a fifth seat belt will be available as an optional extra.

 

Despite having Coupe in its name, the Range Rover Sport Coupe will feature four full doors, although the rear units will be narrower than usual to uphold the vehicle's sporty proportions. Likewise, the rear section of the roof will feature an exaggerate slope.

 

On the powertrain front the Range Rover Sport Coupe should use Land Rover's typical range of six- and eight-cylinder gas and diesel engines. It remains unclear if Land Rover will offer the Range Rover Sport Coupe with a more economical four-cylinder engine. A hybrid is a distinct possibility sometime down the line. An all-electric drivetrain intended to comply with California's zero-emissions law could eventually land in the Range Rover Sport Coupe.

 

Look for the Land Rover Range Rover Sport Coupe to go on sale sometime in 2017 as a 2018 model.
