Mercedes SUV family grows as GLC Coupe production starts

After transforming 200 temporary jobs into permanent ones at its assembly facility in Bremen, Germany, Mercedes-Benz has officially started production of the GLC Coupe in the same plant. Slated to go on sale in the United States early next year, the direct BMW X4-fighter is entering the Bremen assembly line, where more than 12,500 workers are producing ten different models, including the C-Class Sedan, Coupe, and Estate, E-Class Coupe and Estate, GLC, SLC, and SL.

 

The German automaker explains the GLC Coupe production uses a new seating fixture that swings the worker, in “an ergonomically ideal position,” into the vehicle interior. This is needed because of the car's coupe roofline that makes the access more difficult.

 

As a part of the manufacturing process, the individual body parts of the GLC Coupe are produced in the plant’s own press shop on “one of the world's most advanced press lines.” The body of the SUV is produced on the same line as the GLC in “a resource-conserving and cost-saving manner.”
