Nissan launches Murano hybrid; only 600 headed to US
Nissan has quietly launched the Murano hybrid in the US market.
Unveiled first in China more than a year ago, the electrified Murano is equipped with a supercharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine and a single electric motor in a dual-clutch hybrid configuration.
The gasoline engine delivers up to 230 horsepower and 243 lb-ft of torque. Running both the combustion and electric systems together nets 249 horsepower, while the electric motor is capable of adding 118 lb-ft of twist.
Drivers should expect a noticeable improvement in fuel efficiency, both in the city and on the highway. The EPA's official city/highway figures are 26/30 mpg for the all-wheel-drive variant, or 28/31 mpg in front-wheel-drive form.
The hybrid powertrain is only available with the SL and Platinum trim levels, which start at $40,050 and $42,100, respectively. The crossovers could be difficult to find, as a Car and Driver report suggests just 600 will be allocated for the US market.
