Bentley considering ultra-luxurious Mulsanne-based sedan

Bentley has confirmed that it's looking into launching an ultra-luxurious, limited-edition sedan positioned above the Mulsanne, its current flagship.

 

If approved for production, the yet-unnamed model will ride on the same basic platform as the Mulsanne but it will wear a different nameplate. It won't simply be a stretched Mulsanne, however; that segment of the market is already covered by the long-wheelbase Mulsanne that debuted earlier this year during the Geneva Auto Show.

 

 "That doesn't mean we then have to make a bigger car than the Mulsanne. But maybe there are some possibilities for additional edges in this exclusive realm," revealed Rolf Frech, Bentley's board member for engineering, in an interview with industry trade journal Automotive News.

 

Although vague, the executive's comments suggest that the model will feature an even more luxurious interior, a specific design, and possibly a handful of mechanical tweaks. Bentley's Mulliner division will undoubtedly play a role in transforming the Mulsanne into a special limited-edition model.

 

Bentley is still debating whether or not to launch the sedan, which will be limited to anywhere between 50 and 100 examples. If it's approved for production, we'll learn more about it this fall at the Paris Auto Show.
