2018 Honda Accord spotted first time showing fastback roofline

The next-generation, 2018 Honda Accord has been caught testing for the very first time.

The tenth generation of the big-selling mid-size sedan will use a larger version of the modular structure introduced with the latest Civic. Honda currently uses a large web of different platforms and, like many manufacturers, aims to reduce costs by rationalising its portfolio down to a relatively small number of modular chassis.

Where the 2016 Civic Sedan grew considerably, the 2018 Accord is believed to be slightly smaller than its predecessor. That's a result of Honda's decision to stop producing two different versions of the Accord for global sale - for the last 20 years, the US-market Accord has been very different and quite a lot bigger than the Euro-market car.

Engine choice is likely to include an improved version of the existing 2.4-liter, four-cylinder unit, while a 2.0-liter turbo motor is expected to be added to the range, possibly in place of the current 3.5-liter V6. There will be a hybrid version, as well, using the same powertrain as the 2017 Accord Hybrid.

Though heavily disguised, you can see the 2018 Accord shares some styling cues with the 2016 Civic Sedan. The fastback roofline is similar, as is the hood sloping down to a prominent grill.

The 2018 Accord should appear towards the end of 2017.
