Next Honda Civic hatchback spied undisguised

Amateur spy shots taken in England have given us the best look yet at the hatchback variant of the tenth-generation Honda Civic.

 

The pictures were originally published by Autocar. Unsurprisingly, they show that the hatch is virtually identical to the hatchback concept that was presented earlier this year during the Geneva Auto Show. Its design has been toned down a little, but the overall silhouette has made the transition from concept to production without major modifications.

 

Body aside, the Civic hatchback is all but identical to the sedan and coupe models that are already on sale. Entry-level models will use a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine rated at 158 horsepower, while more expensive trims will benefit from a 174-horsepower 1.5-liter four that's both directed-injected and turbocharged. A R-badged model with up to 340 horses under the hood will allegedly join the lineup a little later in the production run.

 

The Honda Civic hatchback will make its official debut next month during the Paris Auto Show, and it will land in showrooms a few months later. While the five-door has traditionally been sold only in Europe, the next-gen model is set to make the trip from Honda's Swindon, UK, factory to the US for the first time ever.
