Paris preview: Citroen CXPerience concept

Citroen has introduced a brand new concept car called CXPerience exactly a month ahead of its official debut during the Paris Auto Show.

 

The CXPerience boasts a futuristic look that previews the next evolution of Citroen's design language. Its front end is characterized by thin V-shaped lights connected by two strips of chrome that also form the company's logo, three staggered rows of LED lights on either side, and pronounced wheel arches. A long roof line and a rakish D-pillar give the CXPerience an almost shooting brake-like silhouette, while a concave rear window provide a visual connection with the classic that it's named after.

 

Accessed via Rolls-like suicide rear doors, the cabin puts an unabashed emphasis on comfort. Wide seats and a single-spoke steering wheel hark back to historic Citroen models like the DS and the aforementioned CX, but the dash echoes the company's newest models in its sheer simplicity. A 19-inch screen replaces all of the buttons, switches, and dials typically found on the center console.

 

While technical specifications are vague, we know that power comes from a plug-in hybrid drivetrain made up of a gasoline-burning engine that generates between 150 and 200 horsepower and an electric motor. The CXPerience boasts 300 horsepower with both power sources running, and it can drive on electricity alone for nearly 40 miles. Shifting duties are handled by an eight-speed automatic transmission, a first for the Paris-based company.

 

The Citroen CXPerience is unlikely to make the jump from a concept to a production model as-is, but its design could influence the replacement for the C5, the company's current range-topping model, that's tentatively set to arrive next year. In Paris, the concept will share the spotlight with the brand new third-generation C3 city car that was introduced a few weeks ago.
