Lexus LC 500 will get even more power for 2018

With the surprise introduction of the LC 500 at the Detroit Auto Show earlier in the year, Lexus announced that its new sports car would come with 467 horsepower (343 kilowatt) and 398 pound-feet torque (527 newton-meter) from a 5.0-liter V8. But new details from the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance paint a slightly different picture of the high-performance coupe.

 

Chief Engineer on the project, Koji Sato, said that the car will now produce 471 horsepower (351 kilowatt) and 398 pound-feet (540 newton-meter) torque. That’s four horsepower and nine pound-feet torque up from when it was originally announced, for those of you keeping track at home.

 

It’s only a slight increase, granted, but in order to bring that figure north of 470, changes to the intake and exhaust systems had to be made. The tweaks represent the first of many upgrades that will undoubtedly come before the car launches early in 2017.

 

As far as the LC 500h is concerned, power remains the same…at least for now. The 3.5-liter V6 hybrid will still send 354 horsepower (264 kilowatt) to the rear wheels via a continuously variable transmission.

 

The two cars will go on sale early in 2017, and though no official pricing details have been given, early rumors suggest the car will retail well above $90,000, with a $10,000 premium for the hybrid version.
