New Land Rover Discovery will debut on September 28

The new Land Rover Discovery will debut at the end of the month, just before the Paris Motor Show kicks off. Ahead of that official unveiling, Land Rover offers this first teaser image, showing the new Disco's face, and while it's not too shocking, given the recent spy shots we've seen, it's certainly a drastic departure from the upright, squared-off looks of the current sport-utility vehicle.

 

Land Rover doesn't offer any details about the new Discovery, instead just quoting chief design officer Gerry McGovern: "The new Discovery redefines the large SUV. Land Rover’s design and engineering teams have revolutionised the Discovery DNA to create a highly desirable, extremely versatile, and hugely capable premium SUV.”

 

It certainly looks more Discovery Sport than LR4, and takes a lot of cues from the Discovery Vision Concept from 2014. Look closely at our earlier spy photos, and you can see a rear shape that's not unlike the Ford Explorer, especially around the C pillar. It's softer and more elegant, to be sure, but should still be ruggedly handsome.

 

As for what's inside, we've already seen a good glimpse of the cabin, which features a redesigned cockpit compared to the smaller Discovery Sport. Jaguar Land Rover's 10.2-inch touchscreen display is prominently featured in the center, housing the company's InControl Touch Pro infotainment system.

 

Under the hood, expect the usual array of four- and six-cylinder gasoline and diesel powertrains. Nothing revolutionary here (we think); look for engines found from within the greater Jaguar Land Rover portfolio.
