New Land Rover Discovery photographed by reader inside and out
Meet the “vehicle ready for anything thanks to its ingenious versatility and unrivalled capability,” or at least that’s how Land Rover is describing the all-new Discovery. Spotted at night by one of our readers, the prototype had the same orange and black camouflage like the other test vehicle our spies saw towards the end of August.
The “LR4” as it’s known in United States has already showed us its production face courtesy of a teaser published by Land Rover several days ago. It’s going to look considerably less boxy than the outgoing model and in many ways will resemble the Discovery Sport. The Discovery Vision concept from 2014 served as a preview for the new model’s appearance, one that’s going to be more upscale and refined compared to the ruggedness exhibited by the current car’s body.
The more sophisticated Disco 5 has probably lost a big chunk of fat by switching to the same platform that has underpinned the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport duo. Chances are that in many markets the bread and butter of the engine range is going to be the 3.0-liter SDV6 turbodiesel. It’s going to be joined by a series of four- and six-cylinder units from Jaguar Land Rover’s Ingenium family.
If you’ll find the regular fifth-gen Discovery too soft, rumor has it a manlier “SVX” derivative is on the agenda for a 2018 launch or so and is set to offer superior off-road capabilities. JLR’s Special Vehicle Operations is in charge of the model’s development and most likely the new member of the family will be equipped with the best JLR will have to offer in terms of 4x4 goodies.
Meanwhile, the standard Disco is going to be introduced on September 28 ahead of its public debut at the Paris Motor Show. Sales in Europe should begin towards the end of the year.
