AWD Alfa Romeo Giulia Veloce gets 280-hp turbo 2.0-liter engine

It was 60 years ago when Alfa Romeo introduced the “Veloce” moniker with the classic Giulietta model, and now the Giulia is being blessed with the legendary moniker. Set to show up in Paris next month, the hugely desirable Giulia in the Veloce trim will come with the brand's latest Q4 all-wheel-drive system receiving the engine’s power from an eight-speed automatic transmission.

 

Speaking of power, buyers will get to pick from either a turbocharged 2.0-liter gasoline engine or a turbodiesel 2.2-liter unit. The former generates a healthy 280 horsepower (208 kilowatts) at 5,250 rpm and provides its maximum torque of 295 pound-feet (400 Newton-meters) from 2,250 rpm. As for the latter, the diesel mill produces 210 hp (156 kW) at 3,500 rpm and 347 lb-ft (470 Nm) from a low 1,750 rpm. Interestingly, it’s the first ever diesel engine from Alfa Romeo to benefit from an all-aluminum construction.

 

The show cars destined to share the spotlight in Paris will come with a fresh Blue Misano paint in the case of the gasoline-powered model, whereas the diesel variant will feature a Silverstone grey body.
