Toyota C-HR specs for Japanese market released
The compact crossover segment continues to boom worldwide, and the Toyota C-HR (Coupé High-Rider) is ready to bring a daring look to the niche. The new model will go on sale in Japan before the end of the year. Americans and Europeans will get the little CUV in 2017.
In Japan, Toyota offers the C-HR in four trim levels. The S and G versions use a 1.8-liter hybrid four-cylinder. The S-T and G-T get a 1.2-liter turbocharged four-cylinder. Toyota doesn’t reveal the output of these powertrains there, but in Europe the hybrid makes 120 horsepower (90 kilowatts). Turbocharged models produce 114 hp (85 kW). Buyers in certain European markets can also choose a 2.0-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder with 148 hp (110 kW).
We don’t yet know about the powertrain range in the U.S. A rumor suggests that only the 2.0-liter four-cylinder might be available. However if Toyota brings the hybrid, the C-HR would be the only compact CUV in the country with that option.
Toyota execs reportedly want to add a high-performance version to the range later. The competition version used a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder with 178 hp (133 kW).
All examples of the C-HR in Japan come with Toyota’s Safety Sense P driver assistance suite. The tech includes pre-collision braking, lane departure warning, automatic high beams, and radar cruise control.
