Mercedes-AMG GT and GT C Roadsters unveiled in Paris

It was inevitable there would eventually be a drop-top version of the Mercedes-AMG GT, and the AMG GT Roadster has now made its debut at the Paris Motor Show.

Both the GT and GT C Roadster have received a comprehensive technical makeover to go with their bodily transformation.

The GT C’s 4.0-liter, twin-turbo V8 motor has been pumped up to produce some 550 horsepower (410 kilowatts) and 502 pound-feet (680 Newton meters) of torque. That represents an increase of 47 hp (35 kW) and 23 lb/ft (31 Nm) over the GT S. That translates to a 0 to 62 miles per hour (100 kilometers per hour) time of 3.7 seconds, and a top speed likely to nudge 200 mph (320 km/h).

The GT C also borrows chassis technology from the GT R. AMG Ride Control suspension with a wider rear track features, along with an electronic differential lock and active rear-wheel steering. It all helps deliver “even higher cornering speeds and exceptional traction,” Mercedes claims.

It also features the GT R’s “Panamericana” grille, active aero shutters, and has a switchable exhaust producing an “authentic” soundtrack.

The regular GT Roadster hasn’t been left out, either. Its engine has been boosted by 13 hp (10 kW) and 22 lb/ft (30 Nm) over the coupe, bringing outputs up to 469 hp (350 kW) and 465 lb/ft (630 Nm). Which is enough to compensate for the weight penalty and maintain the coupe's 3.9 second 0 to 62 mph time.

The Mercedes-AMG GT Roadster is expected to go on sale in the fall of 2017. Pricing will be announced nearer that time.
