Renault Zoe ZE 40 plugs into Paris with 250-mile range
Renault’s Dutch division spilled the beans on the upgraded Zoe earlier in the week, and now the company’s headquarters in France has published all of the details to coincide with the car’s debut on its home turf in Paris. The biggest news is the introduction of a larger 41 kWh battery pack joining the existing 22-kWh pack, which will soldier on.
While the smaller battery has enough energy for a range of 149 miles (240 kilometers) as per the New European Driving Cycle, the new one is rated at 250 miles (400 km) in NEDC. More importantly, Renault says range in real-world traffic conditions has been boosted from the smaller battery’s 106 miles (170 km) to an impressive 186 miles (300 km).
The beefier battery, which was developed by Renault in collaboration with LG Chem, will require just about the same amount of time for a full recharge as the smaller one. If you are really in a hurry, plugging in the Zoe ZE 40 for half an hour will provide enough juice to last for around 50 miles (80 km) of driving. A Quick Charge functionality is also available for those with access to fast-charging points, which Renault says are usually found along motorway corridors.
Just like the smaller battery, the new 41-kWh pack is manufactured at Renault’s Flins plant near Paris where the Zoe also comes to life together with the Clio supermini. The company with the diamond logo will have the ZE 40 version on sale starting next month across Europe.
In France, there’s going to be a plushier Edition One model with a bespoke Yttrium Grey paint and some interior upgrades, including a Bose sound system, leather upholstery, velvet carpets, fancy badging, and heated front seats, with the driver’s seat featuring manually adjustable lumbar support.
