Opel Ampera-e revealed in Paris with huge 310-mile range

Opel has used the 2016 Paris Motor Show to introduce its Ampera-e all-electric model, which is set to “revolutionize the electro-mobility.” Basically a rebadged version of America’s Chevrolet Bolt.

The compact EV is capable of traveling “more than 500 kilometers” or 310 miles on a single charge based on NEDC test cycle, outperforming its closest segment rival currently on the road “by at least 200 kilometers.” Again, according to Opel.

Naturally, the range in everyday use will vary and depends on personal driving behavior and on external factors, but still the car will have a real-world range of more than 236 miles (380 km).

But the Ampera-e is not only green. Its 204 horsepower (150 kilowatts), provided by an electric motor, will be enough for an OPC-like performance – and it’s even faster than the Astra TCR, Adam R2, Corsa OPC, and Insignia OPC, as revealed in a video a month ago.

Opel explains the electric vehicle needs only 3.2 seconds to hit the 31-miles per hour (50 kilometers per hour) mark, while it needs 4.5 seconds to cover the sprint from 50 to 75 mph (80 to 120 kph) before maxing out at 93 mph (150 kph).

It remains to be seen when the model will be launched on the European market and where it’s going to be produced. According to e report from earlier this year, the car could join the Chevy Bolt at General Motors’ Orion factory near Detroit.
