2017 Honda Civic debuts in Paris with two VTEC turbo engines
The all-new, tenth generation Honda Civic Hatchback is here – and it’s making its official premiere at the 2016 Paris Motor Show. Of course, we are talking about the European specification of the model, since its American counterpart debuted more than a month ago.
The new Civic is indeed… and all-new Civic, in literally every aspect. It’s bigger, it has a more aggressive design, a new platform, and new turbocharged engines. Despite these major changes, the car stays true to the original Civic concept of “a car for all people, a car for the world,” the Japanese manufacturer explains.
As mentioned, the vehicle has been designed from the ground up, and brings a new sophisticated suspension construction, as well as lower center of gravity. Probably the most important innovation is the addition of two new turbo petrol engines. The new Euro-spec Civic is becoming the first model for the brand to offer a 1.0-liter three-cylinder unit with 130 horsepower (95 kilowatts) at 5,500 rpm.
There’s also a larger 1.5-liter turbo, which is replacing the old 1.8-liter motor. It’s delivering a healthy 182 hp (134 kW) and can be mated to either a six-speed manual gearbox (our choice) or a CVT automatic.
Bigger body means more room in the interior, and the new Civic is offering more room for the rear passengers and greater visibility. Also, the interior creates a sportier feeling thanks to the 1.18-inches (30-milimeters) lower driving position than the previous model. A set of new ergonomically-optimized front seats are used, providing “high levels of comfort.”
Honda says the new Civic Hatchback is “a key driver for the company’s sales and manufacturing heritage” in Europe. It will be produced in the United Kingdom and exported to over 70 markets around the globe.
