Hyundai's mid-engine hot hatch concept is real and it's at the 'Ring
Hyundai has a huge surprise for the automotive world because the company's RM16 N concept might be coming to the road – or is at least under consideration. The mid-engine hot hatch moves to a new continent from its debut at this year’s Busan Auto Show in South Korea and is now testing at the Nürburgring in these new spy photos
Compared to a stock Veloster, the RM16 N has a vastly different front end that features wider fenders, new headlights, and larger intakes. If this one is like the concept, then the mid-mounted engine is a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder with an electric compressor that produces 295 horsepower (220 kilowatts) and drives the rear wheels through a six-speed manual gearbox. An electronic limited-slip differential would help get the power down. The concept also has an adaptive roof spoiler, but it’s hard to see if the part is also on this one in these still images.
Albert Biermann, the boss at Hyundai’s high-performance N division, said there are two more models from the department on the way after the i30 N. One of them is reportedly for the Genesis sub-brand, but the other is a mystery.
