Mazda previews SEMA-bound MX-5 Speedster Evolution, RF Kuro
Mazda has previewed two MX-5 Miata concepts that will be headed to Las Vegas for SEMA.
Building upon the MX-5 Speedster that debuted nearly a year ago at the same venue, the Speedster Evolution removes a further 100 pounds. Both jettison the windshield and convertible top hardware in favor of a true open-air experience. Clad in White Ether paint, the Evolution is now under a ton -- 350 pounds less than the stock MX-5 soft top.
The open-cockpit concept is joined by the MX-5 RF Kuro, based on the Retractable Fastback variant. Borrowing the Japanese word for 'charcoal,' the Kuro features a unique semi-matte metallic exterior finish.
The rides on black 17x7.5-inch RAYS forged wheels, shrouded in BF Goodrich Rival G-Force rubber. Its adjustable suspension system is sourced from the MX-5 Cup racer.
Both concepts were designed and built in-house at Mazda's Irvine, California, design center.
