Toyota teases production C-HR in American flavor before L.A. debut
Toyota’s new C-HR subcompact crossover was unveiled in production form back in March at the Geneva Motor Show, but even so the company’s U.S. branch wants to create a bit of suspense by teasing the American model. It’s due to be introduced later this month at the Los Angeles Auto Show where it will exhibit a “stunning” design, says Toyota USA.
The styling Toyota is talking about can be observed in the attached images showing the European model and we have a hunch the U.S. version will look essentially the same both on the outside and on the inside as well. It’s actually more than just a simple hunch taking into account spy images of a near-production U.S. prototype have shown the exterior design will be basically carried over. It should be the same story with the cabin.
Originally planned to be sold as a Scion in North America, the Toyota C-HR rides on the company’s new TNGA platform and will land stateside presumably with a naturally-aspirated 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine hooked up to a continuously variable transmission. A more frugal hybrid derivative is going to be available in select markets, but it remains to be seen whether Toyota has plans to sell it in the U.S. as well.
