LA preview: Volkswagen Passat GT concept

Volkswagen has previewed a Passat GT concept that will be formally unveiled at the Los Angeles Auto Show.

 

The GT variant was designed at VW's Chattanooga engineering hub, with more than 20 unique styling tweaks that are geared specifically for the tastes of US-market buyers.

 

Red accents are perhaps the most noticeable differences, lining the top and bottom of a GTI-inspired blacked-out grille and extending across the top of the headlight housings. Other tweaks include black window surrounds, a dark roof rack, smoked taillights and dual trapezoidal exhaust outlets.

 

Designers picked 19-inch Tornado wheels and red brake calipers to further reinforce the GT's sporty character, while ride height has been reduced by 0.6 inches for a lower stance.

 

The interior has received faux carbon-fiber door trim and instrument panel accents, along with two-tone black and gray sports seats with red contrast stitching.

 

The package is powered by VW's 3.6-liter V6 engine with 280 horsepower, delivered via a six-speed dual-clutch gearbox with paddle shifters located on the steering wheel.

 

VW has not yet confirmed the Passat GT for production, but it appears to be presented in a form ready for the showroom.
