Lamborghini Huracan RWD Spyder drops its top with 580 hp
If you hadn’t already heard, the rear-wheel-drive Lamborghini Huracan is quite the machine. What it loses in horsepower over the all-wheel-drive variant, it more than makes up for in pure driving pleasure. Building on that performance-oriented platform, Lamborghini introduced the new Huracan LP 580-2 Spyder at the LA Auto Show.

With a soft-top roof that’s able to be opened and closed in just 17 seconds at speeds of up to 31 mph (50 kmh), the rear-wheel-drive Huracan Spyder weighs in at 3,326 pounds (1,509 kilograms), making it 264 pounds (119 kilograms) heavier than the LP 580-2 coupe, but 74 pounds (33 kilograms) lighter than the all-wheel-drive LP 610-4 Spyder.

But don't worry, that extra heft doesn’t hamper performance too drastically. A whopping 580 horsepower (426 kilowatts) and 398 pound-feet (540 Newton-meters) of torque still emerges from the naturally-aspirated 5.2-liter V10. With a respectable power-to-weight ratio of just 5.7 lbs/hp (2.6 kg/hp) and a weight distribution of 40 percent front, 60 percent rear, 60 mph (96 kmh) is dealt with in just 3.6 seconds, and its top speed sits somewhere close to 200 mph (321 kmh).

All that power is managed via a seven-speed LDF dual-clutch transmission that promises lightning-quick gear changes and includes launch control. A set of Pirelli PZero tires designed specifically for the Huracan wrap around a set of 19-inch Kari rims, and specially contoured steel brakes make sure it stops just as well.

Lamborghini hasn't announced pricing or availability just yet.
