2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee Earns 5-Star Overall Rating from the NHTSA

In the latest round of crash tests, the newest Grand Cherokee of the lot aced the NHTSA’s vehicle evaluation program with a full-fledged 5-star rating.

In the “vehicle dynamic rollover propensity,” a.k.a. the NHTSA-specific rollover test, the GC WK2 couldn’t do better than a 4-star rating. It’s no biggie, however, if you remember that the Grand Cherokee has plenty of ground clearance and the curb weight stands at 4,545 lbs (2,061 kg). In the frontal crash and side impact tests, however, the GC was awarded 5 stars.

These results come courtesy of more than 70 safety and security features. As standard, the GC prides itself on a suite of airbags (including a knee-bolster airbag for the driver), active head restraints, Rain Brake Support, Ready Alert Braking, and Enhanced Accident Response System.
