A closer look at the Aston Martin DB11 Volante
Making its spy photo debut, the DB11 Volante appears to be showings its body in full production glory, but look closer and you’ll notice the rear half of the prototype is actually hidden.

It goes without saying that’s where the changes will occur over the coupe, with the designers from Gaydon tweaking the back of the DB11 convertible to accommodate the fabric top when not in use. The front half of the car will likely be carried over from its fixed roof sibling, albeit Aston Martin might fiddle a bit with the design as well as with the interior cabin to further set the two apart.

Power will come from the same biturbo 5.2-liter V12 engine developing a healthy 600 horsepower (447 kilowatts) and 516 pound-feet (700 newton meters) pound-feet of torque. In the coupe, that’s enough punch to allow the DB11 reach 62 mph (100 kph) in only 3.9 seconds, but the Volante will be a tad heavier, so look for somewhere in the region of 4.1 seconds. The weight penalty is going to take its toll on the top speed as well, which will drop a bit from the coupe’s 200 mph (322 kph).

The mighty V12 will not be the sole engine since the DB11s will also be blessed with Mercedes-AMG muscle coming from the now familiar biturbo 4.0-liter V8. It’s too soon to say how much power it will deliver, but in its strongest iteration the eight-cylinder pumps out 603 hp (450 kW) and 627 lb-ft (850 Nm) in the E63 S.
