2018 Buick Regal GS Revealed With 310HP, AWD For $39,990
General Motors has unveiled the 2018 Buick Regal GS, introducing significant improvements to better compete against German and Japanese luxury rivals.
The performance-focused five-door sportback is motivated by a retuned 3.6-liter V6, producing 310 horsepower and 282 pound-feet of torque -- 51 extra ponies from the previous edition and more power, GM says, than an Acura TLX A-Spec or Lexus IS350 F-Sport.
The extra oomph is transmitted to all four wheels via a nine-speed automatic transmission. Its intelligent all-wheel-drive system is tuned specifically for the GS, with active twin clutches that manage torque split between the rear wheels.
Buick's second-generation Continuous Damping Control adjusts damping up to 500 times per second, while enabling suspension modes to be switched from plush to Sport or GS at the push of a button. The GS also boasts standard Brembo brakes for shorter stopping distances.
The GS' exterior has switched from a rounded front fascia to a more sculpted design, complementing standard 19-inch wheels and unique rear styling. Full LED headlamps are available as an optional upgrade.
Drivers are treated to AGR-certified performance seats with heating, cooling and massaging functions. The interior also features a flat-bottom steering wheel, unique pedals and standard eight-inch displays for the infotainment system and instrument cluster.
Aiming to undercut Audi and BMW, the new Regal GS starts at $39,990 (including freight).
