Bentley Continental GTC Render Seems Just About Right
Very few days have passed since the debut of Bentley’s third-generation Continental GT and already someone with enough free time on his hands has decided to chop off its roof to give as an unofficial preview of the GTC.
The looks may seem overly familiar, but the secrets are hiding beneath that evolutionary design as the new MSB underpinnings shared with the Porsche Panamera have brought improvements on all fronts. For example, Bentley has managed to shave off 80 kilograms (176 pounds), which is exactly what the doctor ordered considering the old version wasn't exactly a light car. The new one isn't either, but at least some of the fat has come off and that should pay dividends in terms of the driving experience.
The front axle of Crewe’s latest GT has been pushed forward by 135 millimeters (5.3 inches), paving the way for a lowered nose and an elongated hood hiding the new biturbo 6.0-liter W12 TSI. The engine churns a massive 626 horsepower and 664 pound-feet (900 Newton-meters) of torque channeled to the wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission promising to deliver faster and smoother gear changes.
Should you want to take it to the max, sixth gear will be enough to reach the top speed of 207 mph (333 kph) as the seventh and eighth gears will be override gears ensuring “relaxed cruising” as Bentley nicely puts it. To hit the maximum velocity, you’ll first do 0-62 mph (0-100 kph) in 3.7 seconds, an impressive performance considering the car’s size and weight.
