The new Volvo XC40 is here, and it’s lovely. The Swedish marque’s first foray into the compact SUV segment looks like a could be a winner when it hits the market in just a few months. With a starting price of $35,200 (not including the $995 destination fee) for the Momentum trim, and $37,700 for the sporty R-Design.
Opting for the sporty-looking R-Design trim will set you back $2,500 over the base Momentum model. For that added cash you get features like 19-inch matte black diamond cut wheels, Sensus Navigation Pro, a 12.3-inch digital driver display, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, and keyless entry with a hands-free power tailgate operation, all standard.
As per most vehicles, the first optional add-on comes on the exterior. On the R-Design, a Black Stone finish comes standard, with six optional metallic finishes, ranging in uniqueness form Fusion Red Metallic, to Bursting Blue Metallic, each at a cost of $595.
Buyers can opt for a set of 20-inch matte black diamond cut wheels over the standard 19-inch fitments for an extra $800. Apart from the optional Lava interior finish – which adds the unique finish to the carpet, door panels, and center console – most of the design elements in the cabin come standard, including aluminum inlays, and an R-Design leather steering wheel and shift knob. For an extra $900, Volvo’s Premium package includes features like adaptive cruise control, power child locks, inductive smartphone charging, power folding rear backseats, and yes, even heated washer nozzles. The $1100 Vision package – includes virtual park assist and a 360-degree camera, as well as active headlights, auto dimming exterior and interior mirrors, power retractable rear view minors, front and rear park assist, and blind spot information warnings.
Heated front seats and a heated steering wheel, surprisingly, are an extra $750 option. Opt for the Harman Kardon premium sound system, and that will set you back another $800, while a laminated panoramic moonroof is an extra $1,200.
All said and done, the Volvo XC40 costs a reasonable $45,935 fully loaded.
