Volkswagen launching Tiguan Coupe next year

Volkswagen will expand the Tiguan lineup next year by launching a Coupe-badged model with a sportier design, according to a recent report.

 

The Tiguan Coupe will share its MQB platform with the Euro-spec variant of the second-generation Tiguan, which is available as a five-seater across the pond. Most powertrain components will carry over, too, but the Coupe will stand out with a more muscular design, according to French magazine Automobile.

 

Don't let the name Coupe fool you: it won't have two doors. It will surf the four-door coupe trend. The CrossBlue Coupe concept shown at the 2013 Shanghai auto show shed valuable insight into what the model will look like. The treatment will only be skin-deep, however, and Automobile learned the two variants of the Tiguan will be almost exactly identical inside.

 

In Europe, the coupe model will carry a roughly 1,500-euro ($1,800) premium over the base five-seater Tiguan.
