Renault Kadjar Facelift Shows Up With A New Turbo Gas Engine
The 2019 Renault Kadjar has been probably one of the most photographed vehicles in the last couple of months and we are happy to report the updated French SUV is finally making its official debut. It doesn’t come with a ton of innovations compared to its predecessor, but there are still some important improvements for the new model year to speak about.
Visually, the Kadjar carries over the familiar C-shape light signature from Renault’s other current models, but now the LED indicators are integrated into the LED daytime running strip. The higher trim levels also get standard reshaped LED fog lamps, which reduce the energy consumption six times compared to the conventional halogen units. Redesigned bumpers, additional chrome trim, and new 17-, 18-, and 19-inch wheels round off the design changes.
The most important improvement under the body is the addition of Renault’s new 1.3-liter gasoline turbo engine. Developed in cooperation with Daimler, the motor is fitted with a gasoline particulate filter, which destroys particles in the exhaust gases by trapping them in a microporous honeycomb structure that regenerates automatically at regular intervals. The new TCe unit will be available with 140 horsepower (104 kilowatts) and 160 hp (119 kW) with either a six-speed manual gearbox or a dual-clutch automatic.
The diesel range has also been updated and now features a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) system. The facelifted Kadjar will be offered with two diesels – Blue dCi 115 and Blue dCi 150, generating 115 hp (85 kW) and 150 hp (112 kW) respectively. Depending on the engine choice, a manual and an EDC automatic will be available, in both 4x2 and 4x4 configurations.
The interior of the refreshed Kadjar gets a couple of upgrades, too. Completely redesigned is the center console, which is home to a new and more elegant multimedia touchscreen. Just below the display are the redesigned air conditioning controls. Renault claims it has used new and higher quality materials for the revised cabin, including new air vent surrounds, door handles, and inner door panels.
