2020 BMW Z4 Full Specs, New Photos Released Ahead of Paris Debut
A limited number of people got to see the 2020 BMW Z4 in August, at the Pebble Beach event in the U.S. Not to let the world wondering, the Germans also released a few photos and some details on the upcoming roadster.
As the car nears its official public unveiling at the 2018 Paris Motor Show – initially the model was supposed to be shown in Geneva in March - BMW spilled the beans on what the new Z4 is all about, including engine options to be offered at launch. The new roadster will hit the shelves in March 2019, with a choice of three variants, two of which will be using the same engine.
The entry level of the new Z4 will be the sDrive20i equipped with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder petrol engine that develops 197 horsepower. The same unit will make its way into the sDrive30i, where an infusion of tuning will bring its performance figures to 258 horsepower and a 5.4 seconds acceleration time. The range-topping Z4 will come as the M40i, fueled by 3.0-liter six-cylinder petrol mated to an eight-speed Steptronic transmission, the same as in the other two variants. The M40i packs much more punch, being capable of sending 340 hp racing down the road.
Being a roadster, a great deal of work went into the build of the retractable soft top. As per BMW, the top of the Z4 can be opened or closed in no more than ten seconds at speeds of up to 50 kph (31 mph). Being a Bimmer, the Z4 comes with all the perks of owning such a car, including BMW ConnectedDrive, Collision and Pedestrian Warning with City Braking, and, for the first time in the Z, a head-up display. Compared to the version which it replaces, the new Z4 comes with a trunk capacity that is 50 percent bigger or a total of 281 liters.
