2016 BMW 5-Series to feature sportier styling, 220 lb weight reduction

Our spies have already caught the 2016 BMW 5-Series on numerous occasions but new details are starting to emerge about the upcoming model.

 

While earlier rumors suggested the car could draw cues from the Gran Lusso Coupe concept, Auto Express is reporting we shouldn't expect anything too radical. This isn't terribly surprising but the magazine says the 5-Series will have a premium appearance that's a tad sportier.

 

The styling might not be a radical departure but the car's lightweight platform could be major breakthrough as it should enable the model to weigh up to 100 kg (220 lbs) less than its predecessor.

 

Under the hood, we can expect an assortment four-, six- and eight-cylinder engines. There have also been rumors about a three-cylinder engine but it remains unclear if buyers would be willing to accept it.
