2015 Subaru Outback unveiled in New York
Subaru has unveiled the 2015 Outback at the New York Auto Show.
Set to go on sale in the United States this summer, the redesigned model follows in the footsteps of the Legacy and adopts a hexagonal grille that is flanked by sweptback headlights. The model also has an aluminum hood, plastic body cladding, a more rakish windscreen and 8.7 inches (221mm) of ground clearance. Other notable highlights include a roof rack, a tailgate-mounted spoiler and 17- or 18-inch alloy wheels.
The entry-level model isn't terribly exciting but features power windows / locks, a tilt / telescoping steering wheel, air conditioning and an infotainment system with a 6.2-inch display.
Moving up to the Premium variant rewards buyers with a 10-way power driver’s seat, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and dual-zone automatic climate control. The model also has heated front seats and an improved infotainment system with a 7-inch display.
The Limited variant goes a step further as it includes the aforementioned equipment as well as perforated leather seats, heated rear seats and a power passenger seat. There's also a harman/kardon audio system and woodgrain trim.
Under the hood, two engines will be available. The 2.5-liter four-cylinder produces 175 bhp (130 kW) and 174 lb-ft (235 Nm) of torque, while the 3.6-liter six-cylinder develops 256 bhp (191 kW) and 247 lb-ft (334 Nm) of torque. Both are connected to a Lineartronic continuously variable transmission which sends power to a symmetrical all-wheel drive system. Models equipped with the 2.5-liter engine are slated to return 25 mpg city / 33 mpg highway / 28 mpg combined, while the 3.6-liter six-cylinder offers an improved fuel economy rating of 20 mpg city / 27 mpg highway / 22 combined.
