Mercedes B-Class Electric Drive pricing announced, will battle the BMW i3

Mercedes has announced the B-Class Electric Drive will be priced from $41,450 when it goes on sale in the United States this summer.

 

Set to battle the $41,350 BMW i3, the B-Class ED will come equipped with power front seats, cruise control and a Becker MAP PILOT navigation system. The model will also feature a variety of safety features including Attention Assist, Active Parking Assist and Collision Prevention Assist with adaptive Brake Assist. Customers can also order an optional 7-inch COMAND infotainment system with internet connectivity, GPS navigation and LINGUATRONIC voice control.

 

Motivation is provided by a 28 kWh lithium-ion battery which powers an electric motor that develops 177 bhp (132 kW) and 251 lb-ft (340 Nm) of torque. This setup enables the car to accelerate from 0-60 mph in 7.9 seconds, hit an electronically-limited top speed of 100 mph (161 km/h) and have a range of approximately 85 miles (137 km).

 

When the battery is depleted, it can be fully recharged in 3.5 hours with a 240V charger. If that's too long, the model can be given a 60 mile (96 km) range in less than 2 hours with the same charger.
