Next-generation Nissan Leaf to feature improved battery, mainstream styling

Nissan executive vice president Andy Palmer has revealed some new details about the next-generation Leaf.

 

Speaking to Automotive News, Palmer said the model will have an improved battery, with revised chemistry, that will give the car an increased range. The executive declined to go into specifics but hinted electric vehicles need to have a range of up to 300 km (186 miles) to counter hydrogen fuel cell vehicles which are being developed by companies such as Honda and Toyota.

 

Little else is known about the next-generation Leaf but Nissan executives confirmed the model will be a hatchback with more mainstream styling. Nissan's chief creative officer, Shiro Nakamura, also told the publication we can expect a V-motion front fascia and a floating roof.

 

While the next-generation Leaf is still several years off, Infiniti is expected to launch their LE electric vehicle in early 2017. It will be a sedan that features wireless inductive charging and the improved battery chemistry technology from the Leaf.
