2015 BMW X6 unveiled, goes on sale in December
BMW has officially unveiled the 2015 X6 crossover.
Set to go on sale in December, the redesigned model follows in the footsteps of its predecessor as it adopts a sporty exterior that favors style over substance. Despite this, the model features improved aerodynamics and additional standard equipment including bi-xenon headlights, an automatic tailgate and 19-inch alloy wheels.
There will also be an M Sport variant that is distinguished by an aerodynamic body kit, a matte aluminum grille and 19-inch lightweight alloy wheels. The model will also have an upgraded interior, an Adaptive M suspension and a self-leveling rear air suspension.
The cabin echoes the X5 and comes nicely equipped with a sport steering wheel, Dakota leather seats and an iDrive infotainment system with up to a 10.25-inch display. Other highlights include a dual zone climate control system, center console-mounted knee pads and a luggage compartment that can hold to 1,525 liters (53.8 cubic feet) of cargo. The crossover can also be ordered with Oxide Silver, Aluminum Hexagon, Brushed Aluminum, American Oak, Fineline Stripe, Fineline Pure or Poplar Grain trim.
At launch, the X6 will be available with three different engines. The xDrive 50i has a 4.4-liter TwinPower Turbo V8 engine that produces 450 PS (330 kW) and 650 Nm (479 lb-ft) of torque. It enables the model to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 4.8 seconds before hitting a top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph).
On the diesel side, the xDrive30d uses a 3.0-liter TwinPower Turbo six-cylinder diesel engine with 258 PS (190 kW) and 560 Nm (413 lb-ft) of torque. This allows it to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 6.7 seconds and hit a top speed of 230 km/h (142.9 mph).
If that's not powerful enough, the M50d has a tri-turbocharged 3.0-liter six-cylinder diesel engine that develops 381 PS (280 kW) and 740 Nm (545 lb-ft) of torque. Thanks to the extra oomph, the crossover runs from 0-100 km/h in 5.2 seconds and has a top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph).
The models will eventually be joined by the sDrive35i, xDrive35i and xDrive40d in the spring of 2015.
Despite all the new options and features, BMW says the 2015 X6 will weigh up to 40 kg (88 lbs) less than its predecessor thanks to an intelligent mix of lightweight materials such as aluminum, magnesium and thermoplastics.
