Next-gen Renault Espace spied with less camouflage

The fifth generation of the Renault Espace has been caught undergoing some last-minute testing ahead of an official reveal set for October at Paris Motor Show.

 

Last September at the Frankfurt Motor Show we saw Renault's rather stunning Initiale Paris concept which has heavily influenced the car depicted here, the all-new Espace. Large MPVs are among the dullest cars out there but Renault is trying to bring some excitement to this segment with a fifth-generation Espace that will lose the boxy shape of the outgoing model.

 

Renault will also introduce its high-end Initiale Paris trim level onto the Espace which will ride on the company's CFM1 modular platform. Leaked patent sketches have shown very few changes compared to the concept so expect to find a raked windscreen combined with a prominent front grille, LED headlights, a narrow glasshouse and also a curved roof.

 

At the moment there aren't any details concerning the engine lineup but rumors suggest Renault will offer the all-new and lighter Espace with a range of economical turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline and diesel units.

 

Sales of the fifth-gen Renault Espace will likely kick off before the end of the year or early 2015.
