2015 / 2016 Volkswagen Tiguan mule spied for the first time

We've been talking about the 2015 / 2016 Volkswagen Tiguan for years but our spies have finally managed to catch a mule undergoing testing in Germany.

 

While the production model will look nothing like this prototype, the model suggests the next-generation Tiguan will have a longer wheelbase as the front wheel wells have been extended further forward.

 

This particular prototype is likely the standard model but previous reports have indicated the company will also offer a coupe and a long-wheelbase variant that measures approximately 4990mm long. The latter crossover is slated to offer seating for seven and be significantly cheaper than the Touareg.

 

All the models are expected to ride on the MQB platform and be offered with a variety of four-cylinder engines. Nothing is official but previous reports have suggested there will be a 1.4-liter TSI, a 1.6-liter TDI with 110 PS (81 kW) and a 2.0-liter TDI with outputs ranging from 150-184 PS (110- 135 kW).
