据英国媒体报道,为了能有一款车型可以应对法拉利458 Italia,保时捷正在开发一款编号为“988”的全新车型。不过，保时捷现行的水平对置六缸引擎无论功率还是扭矩都已经达到了极限，因此工程师正在开发全新水平对置八缸引擎。这款为应对458 Italia的988必然将搭载该引擎，据说其排量为4.0升，采用四涡轮增压，最大功率约为447千瓦/600制动马力，峰值扭矩542牛米。该引擎将采用全新结构并将更广泛的利用铝和复合材料以降低重量。虽然目前车厂并未公布988细节，但据说该车某些设计元素取自918 Spyder。考虑到这是一台中置水平对置八缸引擎，该车的车尾将进一步延长。这款车预计将于2017年上市，保时捷在未来两年内还将推出包括下一代Boxster, Cayman和911等全新车型。

 

Porsche '988' with 600 bhp quad-turbo flat-eight engine in the works

British media is reporting Porsche is working on a Ferrari 458 Italia rival currently codenamed "988."

 

It is believed Porsche's flat-six engine has reached its peak and now the engineers from Stuttgart have started work on an entirely new flat-eight engine. Codenamed "988", Porsche's 458 Italia rival will allegedly get this engine which is said to have a 4.0-liter displacement and pack four turbos to generate approximately 600 bhp (447 kW) and more than 400 lb-ft (542 Nm).

 

It will boast an entirely new architecture that will make more extensive use of aluminum and composite structural elements. At this moment there aren't any exact details about the 988's design but it is believed some styling cues will be borrowed from the 918 Spyder. There should be an elongated rear deck taking into account the mid-mounted flat-eight arrangement.

 

The car is expected to go on sale in 2017 and will be followed by the next generations of the Boxster, Cayman and 911, all arriving within two year's time.
