Porsche Pajun pushed back until at least 2019 - report

British media is reporting Porsche has decided to delay the launch of a smaller Panamera until at least 2019.

 

The Pajun / Panamera Junior was supposed to come out around 2017 but according to CAR that won't happened as Porsche has apparently established other priorities for the years to come. The downsized Panamera is now allegedly slated for a 2019 release and will come with an array of gasoline and diesel V6 engines delivering in the higher-end models more than 500 bhp (373 kW).

 

It is believed the Pajun was delayed because parent company Volkswagen wants Porsche's full support for other models currently in the works which they consider to be more important. One such car could be the rumored "988", a Ferrari 458 Italia rival equipped with a mid-mounted flat-eight 4.0-liter quad turbo engine rated at around 600 bhp (447 kW) and 400 lb-ft (542 Nm).

 

Shortly after Porsche introduced the Panamera Sport Turismo concept at the 2012 Paris Motor Show, rumors emerged about a potential model but nothing materialized. There are also talks about an entry-level 718 slotted below the Boxster/Cayman speculatively planned for a 2016 release. These models could be the reason why Volkswagen and Porsche have decided to delay the Pajun's launch until the end of the decade as part of an overhauled "Porsche Product Strategy 2018" plan.
