Smart has officially unveiled the 2015 ForTwo and ForFour.
Looking instantly recognizable, the models adopt an expressive front fascia with a honeycomb grille that is flanked by larger headlights with integrated daytime running lights. As we move further back, we can see a higher bonnet, a more pronounced shoulderline and a color contrasting tridion safety cell.
Overall, the ForTwo measures 2.69m long, 1.66m wide and 1.55m tall with a wheelbase that spawns 1873mm. The ForFour is slightly larger as has a 2494mm wheelbase and measures 3.49m long.
Yesterday's interior sketch raised our expectations but unfortunately the cabin is a bit of a letdown. The overall design is decent - as there's a uniquely contoured dash and a freestanding infotainment system - but the material quality leaves something to be desired.
Three trim levels will be available and the entry-level model will boast keyless entry, cruise control, an external temperature gauge and an LCD display in the instrument cluster. Higher-end variants can be equipped with niceties such as a multifunction steering wheel, heated seats and a JBL audio system.
At launch, two three-cylinder engines will be available. The naturally aspirated 1.0-liter unit produces 71 PS (52 kW) and 91 Nm (67 lb-ft) of torque, while the turbocharged 0.9-liter engine develops 90 PS (66 kW) and 135 Nm (99 lb-ft) of torque. A few months later, the model will be offered with a "basic petrol engine" that churns out 60PS (45 kW). Regardless of which engine is selected, it can be paired to a five-speed manual or a twinamic six-speed dual clutch transmission.
Detailed pricing information hasn't been released but Smart confirmed the ForTwo will cost less than €11,000. The ForFour, on the other hand, will retail for about €600 more.
